Album of the Week : Vampire Weekend – Contra (cd & lp) (XL)
Those of you who came to the playback before Christmas will already know (unless you got too sozzled on the mulled wine to remember!) that the Brooklynites have delivered a blinder of a follow up to their modern-day classic debut. Their joyous fusion of afro rhythms, surf guitars & art-rock will certainly be keeping us warm through the big freeze. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2010.
Single of the Week : These New Puritans – We Want War 10″ (Angular Recordings)
what a return! this extraordinary 7.5 minute epic is the 1st taste of their bizarre but utterly compelling 2nd album, ‘Hidden’. Massive Attack meets doom meets rock opera – bring it on!

This Week’s Instore : Good Shoes album launch - Wednesday 13th @ 6pm – ticket holders only
To celebrate the release of their 2nd album, the alt-popsters are popping in to play an intimate fans show. Just ask instore to find out how you can get your hands on a pair of tickets for this event. The album’s ace & their last Brighton show sold out super fast, so we feel very lucky to have this lot play instore for us.

Also, this month’s Mojo comes with a free Amorphous Androgynous comp as the covermount, so those of you who have been loving the 2 officially released volumes as much as we have, can get an extra helping for free + we are featured in this month’s issue as Mojo’s “Store of the Month”. We like to think of ourselves as a “shop” but who are we to pick holes! To see all the new release info, click on the link below. Please note that some of the releases may be a wee bit delayed due to snow-related delivery issues.
