The Long Sleep
a widescreen and less forthrightly confrontational version of hval has emerged here, with more focus on her leftfield soft, almost dream rock production style making it an easier listen than her previous releases, yet no less profound and exciting.
She’s not lost her sense of provocation through philosophy though, and the edge of her sound hasn’t dulled, she’s just filtered it through a more spacious, sax laden, dreamy soundscape that makes you work for her insights rather than throwing them in your face. The fact you can float in these songs before finding the core of the lyrics makes that dissociation between lyric and sound that bit more gripping.
