Hot Shots Of Reggae: Expanded Edition

Doctor Bird

Released: 10th Nov 2017

its first issue since its original run, this revisits the original star-studded comp and adds a further 13 Kong-produced recordings from the glorious, golden age of reggae.

After launching his Beverley’s Records label in the early 1960s, Leslie Kong quickly established a reputation as being one of the sharpest operators in the Jamaican music business. A number of his recordings not only topped the local charts, but also breached pop listings around the world. The hit-rate continued into the 1970s, as his tight and breezy production style ensured such esteemed acts as the Maytals, the Melodians, the Pioneers, Desmond Dekker and Jimmy Cliff all made the UK mainstream charts. despite its immense popularity, this comp had remained unissued in any format since its original release.
