KAKASHI (2017 reissue)
Reissued – & remastered - for the first time outside of Japan, with new & translated original liner notes, & ‘studio banter’ from the man himself, this is a magical addition to fans of the 80s japan’s new-wave jazz fusion scene.
Remastered at Dubplates & Mastering. originally released in 1982, ‘Kakashi’ offers a transportive blend of saxophone experimentations, jazz fusion & ambient, dub excursions that sound like a room full of conversing spirits – wonderful stuff. This album, which has gathered cult status in recent years, is the project of musical visionary Yasuaki Shimizu, & considered to be one of the highlights of his solo career. Shimizu was the bandleader of Mariah, who also saw their album ‘Utakata No Hibi’ reissued by Palto Flats in 2015. Since the 70s, Yasuaki has collaborated with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Julee Cruise, David Cunningham & others. “it is, overall, entirely enchanting” 8/10 – uncut.
