Material Control

Century Media Records

Released: 19th Jan 2018

we gave up on glassjaw returning a long time ago, and yet here they are, only made more jagged enraged by the passage of time, if anything.

there has always been a special kind-of adrenal rush to this band’s music, as if the audible equivalent of spiralling perpetually close to the edge of a cliff. it’s the swinging kind-of intensity of the music - the way the guitars mingle complexly, and palumbo’s desperately imploring and imposing vocal. and it’s all here, undiluted, frenetic and always promising the slither of a melodic morsel by way of pay-off. ‘material control’ is an unexpected and unmitigated triumph, with the band at its heaviest in a way that seems utterly necessary. OF COURSE riyl deftones, AT THE DRIVE-IN, AND EVERY TIME I DIE. “dazzling songcraft…[an] unrivaled ability to pull brightness from the most freakish and inharmonious junctures” 8/10 – kerrang, “lean, sinewy, brutal... ‘Material Control’ doesn't cater to anything except the next rush of adrenaline, the next high…this is a Glassjaw album, through and through.” 4.5* - sputnik music
