PLAYS MUSIC OF 'THE SHINING'
Yes: this single does what it describes, in having the experimental rock heroes earnestly tackling music from kubrick’s horror masterpiece.
With one side abstracted (and terrifying), and the other pretty (and terrifying) it amounts to a cracking oddity. They take on Bartok's "Music For Strings, Percussion and Celesta”, and transcribed one of the 20s songs from the closing credits. Music that in the movie echoed from some ghostly, gilded past takes on a more urgent character in Deerhoof's versions. An ace little single.
