Paul Webb (Talk Talk’s former bassist) has, as you would expect, produced a stunning, richly detailed & engrossing record for his 2nd release as Rustin Man (his fabulous debut was a collaboration with Portishead's Beth Gibbons).  A series of beautifully textured pieces that manage to sound both timeless & firmly rooted in the present, this sounds like the sweet spot between David Bowie's latter works, Robert Wyatt’s outsider prog & Damon Albarn's non-Blur projects. The years spent listening to film music and 40’s standards are all audible on ‘Drift Code’ but there’s a spontaneity as well – the record is described by Rustin Man as “songs that belong nowhere but also hopefully everywhere”. “pop and rock and jazz and folk seem suspended in aspic…that voice belongs to a broad tradition of English melancholia” 4/5 – Mojo, Album Of The Month, "something to savour slowly and to drift with ponderingly" 5/5 - crytpic rock
