I Also Want To Die In New Orleans
Kozelek sets his curmudgeonly stream-of-consciousness spoken word to skitters of exploratory free jazz.
Since 2014’s fantastic ‘Benji’, Sun Kil Moon has had a bit of a creative purple patch. 4 solo albums & 2 collaborations with Justin Broadrick’s Jesu guise and now he has a 7th record to add to that pile, this time enlisting Jim White of the Dirty Three & saxophonist Donny McCaslin. The end result of which is a concurrently challenging and entrancing album that refuses to blink in the face of a world seemingly crumbling all around it. “Kozelek’s genius lies in how he indirectly conveys how temporary everything precious is, how contingent on outside forces.” 4/5 – The Arts Desk.
