Cherish The Light Years
cold cave’s 2nd album is a remarkable progression both from their acclaimed debut ‘love comes close’ & the discordant, industrial skeletons on the ‘cremations’ compilation. this is a defining moment for the band, the summing up of main man wesley eisold’s musical journey to date. as he says, "i wanted the record to pertain to every musical moment of my life, from being a kid who's into the cure or new order or some of the early siouxsie records to some of the last few bands i've been in too". certainly the synth-heavy, drum machine-driven tracks & his authentic goth-croon make good on his ambition, echoing the work of depeche mode, human league & the cure, all enwrapped in an impressive production sheen that makes it all the more accessible. this will no doubt propel cold cave to bigger & better things. “refashioning vintage mute records sounds into widescreen pop” 4/5 – uncut, “an intoxicating blend of belting tunes & utter insanity” – nme.
