Play It Again Sam
this 5-piece are purveyors of lush orchestral epic & widescreen baroque indie rock – the middle east meet grizzly bear via oklahoma. taking over 14 painstaking months to put together, ‘tamer animals’ was reportedly inspired by sigur ros, ennio morricone & godspeed you black emperor. the result is a gorgeous, dreamy record that makes you feel all warm, comfortable & fuzzy – kinda like slumping into a giant beanbag with a cup of hot chocolate (with a dash of brandy of course) in your favourite baggy jumper. so many attempts at the baroque pop genre end up being either over-blown & over ambitious or underwhelming & weedy, but other lives have hit the jackpot here – it’s wonderfully paced, perfectly constructed & truly entrancing. sure to appeal to fans of grizzly bear, fleet foxes, sufjan stevens, dm stith or the recent son lux album. “organic & lovingly crafted, a record whose lushness often invites you to simply collapse into it” 7.4/10 – pitchfork.
