Joe Higgs slow moving wistful paen ‘Invitation to Jamaica’ released on his own Elevation label was the winner of the 1972 Jamaican Tourist Board Song Competition.
Joe in his own unique way has managed to infuse the song with a roots sensibility while also making it a song with a broad appeal. Joe Higgs is rightly referred to as one of the God fathers of Jamaican music. First cutting sides for Edward Seaga in the late 50s he tutored the early Wailers and toured with the band when Bunny Livingstone refused to tour. His influence on Jamaican music is profound and deep. This is the first re-issue of this classic 45 and is pressed in avery limited edition for RSD2017.
