MONKEYTOWN
techno luminaries truly master their sound with this set of heartfelt songs lurking in the moodiest & most atmospheric corners of the dancefloor.
'bad kingdom' kicks things off with a bang - modeselektor’s thundering bass rumbles in the cellar, apparat’s sensitive & subtle melodies float high in the eaves as burial beats cut through the mix. these nods to the uk scene crop up throughout the album, whether in the driving old school garage breaks of 'version' or the trip-hop of 'let in the light', a woozy ambient pop song that exemplifies their knack for beautiful, sighing synths. however the distinct groove of german techno deeply informs the soul of these songs, making the human element of sascha ring's voice all the more natural to their sonic construction. "more considered than the debut, more quietly patient & yet somehow more addictive" 8/10 - pitchfork.
