the Revered Chicago-based instrumental group have spent 25 years making music that defies description & these songs continue to transcend expectations as often as they delight our eardrums.

While the quintet have nodded to dub, rock, jazz, electronica & minimalism throughout their acclaimed & influential 6 album discography, the resulting sounds have always been distinctly their own. 'The Catastrophist' is an album where moody, synth-swept jams like the opening title track cosy up next to hypnotic, bass & beat missives like ‘Shake Hands With Danger’ & a cover of David Essex’s 1973 hit song ‘Rock On’ sung by U.S. Maple’s Todd Rittmann. this isn’t the only vocal moment on the album either as Yo La Tengo’s Georgia Hubley's distinctive tones are on the bittersweet classic soul/R&B vibe ballad ‘Yonder Blue’. There’s still a deeply intuitive interplay of experimentation, revision & improvisation between the band members. if you're unfamiliar with tortoise but are into mogwai or explosions in the sky, check out these post-rock veterans.
