Justin Vernon (bon iver) and aaron dessner (the national) are at the height of their songwriting powers here in this off kilter pop masterpiece – there’s moments of transcendent volcano choir beauty, blood orange minimal r&b and sparklehorse wonder.

Closer to Vernon’s volcano choir than any of their other projects, but with a National-y sense for drama, they’ve managed to create an inventive and brilliantly engaging sound that sounds like little else.
