When The Lights Go
Nice Age
Having incubated a decade’s worth of hyper-addictive melodic ideas, this shimmering record is a treasure chest of balmy yacht rock & gossamer dancefloor riches.
How have we had to wait 10 years for the follow-up to TEED’s magnificent debut, ‘Trouble’?! That was a massive deck seller a decade ago and we suspect this one will be the same when you hear it blasting on the shopfloor. Whilst we’re not sure we’ve quite forgiven him for the excruciating dearth of full-lengths in that time (although he has kept himself busy hanging out with the likes of Bonobo, AMTRAC and Porter Robinson, to be fair), this double-length goes some way towards making up for it.
This is a substantial body of work, containing 17 tracks, representative of the duration between albums: “I feel grateful to know that there are people who are interested in more music from me. So I want to give them something significant in length”, he says. It also marks a shift into the pop domain; Orlando’s vocals take centre stage with arrangements that complement the sadness in the songwriting. To our ears, if you are partial to a bit of Caribou’s most recent output, you’ll be right at home here.
