Aloha / Just You
Full Time Hobby
the husband & wife duo’s latest single is an arresting pair of lush, melancholic pieces that marry gently plucked guitar with pensive saxophone-playing & tenderly whispering vocals – twin peaks fans should stay mark frosty for the show-stopping flip-side.
‘aloha’ features Alexi Erenkov on guitar, vocals, saxophone, & Crumar synthesiser; his wife, Alison Alderdice, on percussion & vocals; & his long-time friend & collaborator, Richard Laws, on bass & vibraphone. It’s largely a reflection on the ebb & flow of personal growth, escapism, & the repair of a relationship. While the verses drift between intimate vignettes of progress, stagnation, & obstinacy, the chorus engulfs the listener in a state of self-conscious exotica, & ultimately reveals that on the quest for self-knowledge, the path has been lost. the B-side is their interpretation of an iconic musical moment from Twin Peaks: ‘Just You’, Written by David Lynch & Angelo Badalamenti.
