With their oft-mimicked but rarely matched penchant for creamy alt-rock filtered through hazey shoegaze moods, the scene progenitors ride a feeling of soaring ectasy on a superb comeback-follow-up lp.

‘Future Ruins’ exhibits Swervedriver’s fabled widescreen escapism, but with a tension that echoes the sleeve image of Coney Island in skeletal monochrome, like a post mortem photograph of a failed utopia. It may have taken upwards of 25 years, but their highly-evolved rock reinvention has been worth the wait. Riyl ride, ringo deathstar, mbv, but with lashings of smashing pumpkins. “a bold step forwards… there are moments here that recall the sonic haze of their Creation heyday…but its on the more adventurous likes of "Theeascending" and "Radio-Silent" where the ante is upped.” 8/10 – under the radar
