although the black keys recorded their 6th album at alabama’s infamous muscle shoals sound studio, a blue-eyed soul album this ain’t.

indeed it’s business as usual for dan auerbach & patrick carney as they bring us another absolutely solid collection of retro-styled fuzzed-up blues rock. if anything though, the band have a fuller sound now thanks perhaps to brining in  session bass & keys, which help in smoked-out juke-joint jams such as ‘next girl’ & ‘too afraid to love you’. diversifying further, ‘never give you up’ conjures 60’s northern soul spectres – something king khan might be jealous of for his playbook. ever reliable, these guys have come up with the goods yet again! “southern gothic takes hold of ohio’s blues manglers” 4/5 – mojo, “one of the best rock ‘n’ roll bands on the planet” 4/5 – uncut.
