comes with a completely excluisve, free 1 hour bonus mix disc & it's awesome!
daniel lopatin’s 6th album in his oneohtrix moniker forges an emotive, ambient sci-fi song cycle using sounds recycled from ‘80s tv adverts.
the sample-based meditations of ‘replica’ are as lyrical as they are ecological, featuring re-purposed ‘ghost vocals’ which serve as narration for lopatin’s signature amorphous, ambient passages. the artist’s commitment to his frequent synth of choice, the juno-60, is still on display, but the placid, synthetic surroundings of ‘returnal’ are accelerated via darker, propulsive terrains using samplers, analogue filtering, tape manipulation, acoustic piano, plate reverb & sub-frequencies. “’replica’ offers a vision of a future suffused in a warm, utopian glow & is the finest moment yet from an increasingly unique talent.” 4/5 - stool pigeon “…gleaming synths & sparse piano melodies arc skyward, elegiac monuments to forgotten broadcasts & bygone media” 8/10 – spin.
