Effortlessly stylish, relentlessly paced and impeccably balanced – both the film and the soundtrack had our hearts racing this year.

Just as in the film, the soundtrack follows pop music’s most famous unnamed protagonist, Baby, through decades of expertly written tunes. Having such a loosely defined premise for music supervision could end up catastrophic in the wrong hands, but here it’s deftly threaded, speeding through thirty tracks of expertly selected tunes that tell his (and Debora’s) story. While it ties in perfectly with the blockbuster, most of the shop heard and fell in love with the soundtrack well before we watched it - even if you’ve no interest in the brilliant film, any compilation that can have Dave Brubeck, The Damned & The Commodores on 3 consecutive tracks and still sound coherent and exciting gets our seal of approval.
