LIME GARDEN
One More Thing
So Young / communion
Resident's Album of the Year 2024!
It’s been a certifiable joy to have witnessed the development of the Lime Garden world over the last few years because the vivacious Brighton 4-piece are the real deal.
Their earworm abundant debut has been a firm team favourite and a staple on the shop stereo since it was released back in February and now sees itself deservingly voted as Resident’s 2024 Album of the Year!
Obviously, we came to ‘One More Thing’ wanting to love it. Those quirky early singles (none of which are included here), were knockout. The live shows have been steadily building in size, fervour, and reverence and the odds of us being all over this were certainly stacked in their favour. The hard-grafting band just had to pull a blinder of a debut full-length out of the bag. Not much of an ask, eh? Turns out, that was exactly what they had hidden up their denim trouser legs.
In a year that has gifted us outstanding indie-rock-pop debuts from the likes of the major-label backed English Teacher, NewDad and The Last Dinner Party, this super tight band have more than held their own. Referencing current culture with a few pit stops at laid-back tracks that allow the witty lyrics to hit a little deeper, their partnership with notable producer, Ali Chant (Yard Act, Sorry, Katy J Pearson), has allowed them to massage that sonic sweet spot they’ve so convincingly made their own.
The seeds of Lime Garden were sown in Guildford, where the band initially came together. Not exactly shrinking violets, the quartet had lofty aspirations from the get-go, believing that they’d be stepping out on stage at Wembley within a year and, having unleashed this paragon of indie-pop, they can certainly be forgiven the braggadocio. We properly struggled to articulate what exactly makes this our standout record of the year – so much so that we almost designed this as a double page spread entirely of cool photos and adoring press quotes to avoid doing the album a disservice. Ultimately, they’re quite simply, authentically, truly Lime Garden.
The band impressively, and rather boldly, close an album of back to back bangers with a sweet yet sincere and subtle moment in ‘Looking’, which hones their versatility. It allows us to take stock of all that has come before it and fully appreciate the record as a whole - essentially gifting that ‘One More Thing’ we’re craving
