Dunstan Bruce (Chumbawamba)
FUCKING EXPENSIVE
Heavy Medication Records
Ex-Chumbawamba frontman and modern-day agent provocateur Dunstan Bruce is to release a thoughtprovoking new single “Fucking Expensive”.
It is said that the simple ideas are the best and this incendiary new release pulls no punches; everything about this song holds your attention and that’s no mean feat these days. The orchestral strings create the tension whilst the huge beats pull the song along like a truck and Dunstan’s vocal holds everyone and everything to account. This first solo single will resonate and reverberate across all generations. It eschews genre; this is punk in every way but minus the buzzsaw guitars. Dunstan’s punk roots and signature vocal style still shine. From the get-go the song invites the listener to join in with every verse and chorus; it’s nigh-on impossible not to. It’s an anthem for the times we live in and a call to arms for us to rethink everything. The single represents a whole new philosophy. “Fucking Expensive is a mindset, a declaration of the inherent value of everything in life. From the mundane to the extraordinary, we recognise the priceless worth of existence. It's not about monetary value; it's about cherishing every moment, every relationship, and every experience as irreplaceable. Fucking Expensive reminds us that life's richness lies in the appreciation of its infinite complexities. It's a philosophy that transcends material possessions, embracing the profound truth that everything and everyone is fucking expensive” Dunstan has collaborated with producers and Oscar-winning team Tarn Willers and Jimi Ogden who have captured Dunstan’s distinctive vocal delivery whilst producing tracks that have been crafted with an original and inspired style. They are very much of the moment. Dunstan recorded the tracks in the Brighton studio of My Life Story frontman Jake Shillingford whose vocals also appear on both tracks. Dunstan’s history and much of his legacy comes from the original and constant band that was Chumbawamba. Selling more than 5 million albums and attaining triple platinum status they started out as one of the original DIY anarchist punk bands who went from operating out of a squat in Leeds to touring the world, using their new-found platform to shout all the way to the top with their own brand of agit-pop. Nowadays Dunstan performs a one-man show entitled “Am I Invisible Yet?” and is also a music documentary filmmaker having made the films “I Get Knocked Down”, “A Curious Life” and “This Band Is So Gorgeous!” As a musician he is still playing gigs around the world with his latest band, Interrobang.
