known for his elegiac scores to Studio Ghibli classics, here’s a fabulous reissue of vintage electronic esoterica from 1984 by this premier film composer of Japan.
this one is a musical accompaniment to an ‘80s manga of the same name, and a showcase of Hisaishi’s lesser known talents as an electronic musician. On ‘Kisshō Tennyo’ we hear Hisaishi unleash synth arpeggios with the suspense of a giallo horror, cold minimalist ambience a la Terry Riley, amidst moments of sublime lightness of touch. All in all, befittingly beguiling. “Joe Hisaishi's soundtracks for animated Studio Ghibli films such as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are widely celebrated, his scores always providing perfect accompaniment to the Japanese studio's works.” - quietus
