the manchester musicians bring back the beats to their pristine ambient-dream-doom-jazz-electronica.
we’ve long been champions of the trio’s fine work (they have been previous album of the week recipients) so being sent ‘signals’ for consideration as a dinked edition was an exciting prospect. as you can see, we said yes. very enthusiastically. as we’ve come to expect with this band, their 12th album continues to experiment & push boundaries. if you’re a fan of the laid back vibes of boards of canada, the jazzy goodness of gogo penguin, the immersive synth-ambience of ulrich schnauss or even the soundtrack work of post-rock stalwarts mogwai, you need to become a fully paid up member of the marconi union. ‘signals’ combines synthetic textures with organic sound & merges the familiar with the unknown, transporting us deep into our imagination. long-term fans & the newly enlightened will delight in these richly melodic compositions equally.
