Lyra Pramuk
Hymnal
7K!/Pop Soil
The multi-disciplinary artist – producer, composer, vocalist, performance artist and astrologer – shares her sophomore album, 'Hymnal': an earthy, raw and psychedelic burst of euphony for our collective healing.
Classically trained and deeply inspired by Berlin’s club culture, Lyra has garnered critical acclaim for her vocal virtuosity and original, genre-fluid sound rooted in experimental vocals, instrumental composition and left-field electronics.
Throughout 'Hymnal', she creates a radical and primal polyphony of innovatively-sampled vocals, expressive in-your-face strings (in collaboration with Sonar Quartett), and exceptional future-facing electronic production. These varied elements combine to form an ecstatic genesis – an audacious symphony of the universe. Lyra’s rich, process-driven compositions intersect with the minimalism of Steve Reich and Terry Riley, the avant-garde vocal storytelling of Meredith Monk and Laurie Anderson, and the political and communal spirit of American folk and dance music.
For Lyra, 'Hymnal' is her own book of worship songs: for the earth, the cosmos, and all life-forms, living and dead. Inspired by the natural world and our place within a mysterious universe, it’s an invitation for cosmic interconnectivity, unfurling like a mass bloom in time-lapse from sunset to sunrise. 'Hymnal' responds to the multiple, intersecting crises of our times – ecological, humanitarian, socio-political, and technophilosophical. Driven by the role we must play to address and process the feelings that emerge as our home and human rights are taken from us, it calls us to remember music's early, communal roots, and our own agency in the process of our individual and collective transformation.
