Yo La Tengo
Originally released in 1990, Yo LaTengo's 'Fakebook' is considered by many to be among their best efforts.
It is Yo LaTengo "Unplugged" working out on a handful of originals & a number of obscure would-be hits like The Kinks' 'Oklahoma U.S.A.', John Cale's 'Andalucia' & the Flamin' Groovies 'You Tore Me Down'. Their song 'The Summer' & their brilliant take of Daniel Johnston's 'Speeding Motorcycle' proved to be the bands first alternative chart hits. Featuring guitar work by Dave Schramm & production by Gene Holder (The dB's). "Recommending Fakebook as the best place to begin a relationship with Yo La Tengo is slightly disingenuous, mainly because Yo La Tengo has never made another record like it, and perhaps never will. So, as completely wonderful as this record is, it's an accurate representation of one side of Yo La Tengo" 4.5/5 - all music guide.
