Rocksteady Taking Over Orange Street

kingston sound

Released: 15th Jun 2015

Released: 15th Jun 2015

Rocksteady took over Orange Street, Kingston, Jamaica around 1966, when an extreme heatwave hit the Island.

Some say the previous jerky Ska Rhythms proved too strenuous an activity to partake in during the all night Sound Systems, and so it proved a winning formula to slow the beat down to a more leisurely pace. Whatever the reasons, this two year period that ran until 1968 made room for a new wave of up and coming producers and a sound that would have a profound influence on classic reggae and the 2-tone movement.
