beach house are an american institution - and on this, their 5th album in 10 years, they prove that there's still so much more to give.
beach house will always be beach house - there's the shuffling keyboard drums, rolling synths and that feel running through it that crosses the line between claustrophobic and intimate that they've made their own, but once again they've progressed their sound. not to sound like anyone else mind: on their least typically beach house-y tracks such as 'sparks' they progress further and further into their own sound, purifying the gentle and the heady to the point of pure perfection. There's no one else making music in a world of their own like this at the moment, which makes any new arrival precious and essential. can't recommend this highly enough! "Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally have done everything right: They’ve found the ideal balance of dim, lush tones; their sound progresses at a graceful, even clip" - 8.4 best new music, pitchfork; "rarely before have the pair achieved [so much] with this much grace & finesse" - 8/10 uncut
