You get the fuzzy stomps, the doses of psych, the beatles-esque pop sensibility, the acoustic ballads (oh man – a couple of songs here are positively Elliott Smith-ian). He pretty much puts everyone else trying to do those things as their main thing to shame. This record feels proper tight, and like the album you’d recommend you’re uninitiated friend as the place to start on their Segall odyssey. Its proof that in fact the garage is not the arena of play anymore – Segall has transcended to rock god status. Not only are Ty Segall fans likely to be pressing this on people for the next few months, it also might be just about the best album he’s put his own name to” 5/5 – the skinny
