DOMINO RECORDING CO LTD
Intimate and dreamy, this is a stunning set of downer-pop with a unique transatlantic flavour – essential for fans of the likes of arab strab, twilight sad, alex g, and cigarettes after sex.
The former coral man marries distinctly north-american takes on shoegaze, slowcore and bedroom pop with a lyricism that is resolutely northern-britain. In doing so he burrows deep into our hearts, the sense being that the view he sees out of the window is the same as ours. (i.e. rainy, grey, full of yearning, oddly beautiful). It makes the moments of crashing catharsis that erupt throughout cut real deep, and you wonder when the last time was that you heard music that made you feel like this. Won-der-ful. “Sincere, moving and musically ambitious” 8.5 – line of best fit, “showcase(s) Ryder-Jones as one of the most distinctive, comforting and essential voices we have” – the skinny
