One Little Indian
the bonkers icelandic sonic-explorer’s 7th studio album is unique multi-media exploration moves from the atomic to the cosmic - oh yes! as is always the case with this highly inventive lady, this is a not simply an album – it’s a fully conceived, high art statement.
björk has collaborated with app developers, scientists, writers, inventors, musicians & instrument makers to explore the universe & its physical forces, exploring the relationships between musical structures & natural phenomena. it’s a surprisingly minimal album but nevertheless, its full of truly exciting sounds & structures. amid rumbling synths, regal horn passages & crisply plucked string sequences, she uses specially made instruments like a “gravity harp”, a tesla coil, a group of pendulums & the clanging “gameleste”, a hybrid of gamelan & celesta, played with an ipad. one of her more challenging records, this requires proper listening but give it the time deserved & you’ll be richly rewarded.
