Mid Year Staff Picks 2023

Life moves so fast these days that sometimes it’s important to stop.

And that’s what we are here to do with you in a musical capacity. To take a pause halfway through the year, have a look what 2023 has gifted us so far and share amongst ourselves and with you - our cherished customers - which of this year’s auditory bequests we have returned to and enjoyed the most. We have brought those reflections here together for you in the form of our Resident Soundcheck 2023.

Take time to get to know The Residents, read about our fave releases of the year so far, check out things you haven’t come across or might have previously dismissed but now like the sound of, relisten to some of your earlier purchases or favourited titles or even finally peel the shrinkwrap off that record / CD you keep meaning to play & haven’t quite got round to yet (it’s cool – we all have that pile!).

As always, we have kept our mid-year round up as a much more lowkey affair than the weighty tome that is our end of year Resident Annual. Each of us has picked our favourite 4 albums of the year so far (up to the early June cut off for going to print), listed here in no particular order, just to give you a flavour of what we’ve chosen to feed our ears.

We’ve also highlighted a selection of other stand out and bestselling releases that didn’t make it to the Top 4s (some of which came out after the staff submissions), to make sure you don’t let them pass you by. Plus, we’ve had a sneaky peek into the future to draw your attention to some albums currently up for preorder that you might want to jump on now and to showcase the huge number of events that we have coming up that you should most definitely get involved with if you’re at all local to us.
