Well, hasn’t June just crept right up on us?!.

Here we are. Halfway through the year. Time to take a (tiny) pause and reflect, ‘cause we’ve been busy. To be fair, we always keep ourselves busy. But it feels like our feet have barely touched the ground this year.

We’ve been beavering away: processing records for the shop, shipping parcels out, serving at the counter, shuffling filing, emails, loading items onto the website, placing orders, unboxing, re-boxing, shuffling filing, emails, making recommendations, tweeting, ‘gramming, writing reviews, answering the phone, shuffling filing, emails, updating release dates, working on Dinked Editions, arranging / delivering instores, outstores and signings (we’re talking the likes of Father John Misty, Yard Act, Kojey Radical, Johnny Marr, Bastille, Franz Ferdinand, Kae Tempest, The Mysterines, Wet Leg, Crows and Fontaines D.C. to name a few of them), taking photos, posing with records, arranging displays, and, in case we hadn’t mentioned it, shuffling filing and emails. Oh, and we also won an award for it all too!

Turns out we’re pretty good at all this stuff and other people seem to agree so this year, for the 5th time, we found ourselves holding aloft the prize for Independent Retailer of the Year 2022 at the prestigious Music Week Awards. What an accolade! And we couldn’t have done it without the tireless work of all of the hard-working Residents...or the continued support of you fabulous people!

Fortunately, amongst all of this excitement, we found some time to listen to lots of excellent music. And this year, so far, has been a total bumper for fresh sounds (don’t ever let anyone tell you that there’s no good music these days!). We’ve asked each of the Residents to offer up their 4 essential picks for the first half of the year. There’s a little bit of crossover here and there. But reassuringly, there isn’t any firm consensus across the whole team. Our tastes span the spectrum from angular post-punk, synth-bangers, indie-pop royalty, and soulful singers to fierce hip-hop, scorched metal, elegant folk, and some very experimental oddities. Each of us bringing in something a little different to the vast selection of music that makes up our collective musical taste.

So, flip the (digital) pages here and find out what we’ve been filling our ears with and hopefully you’ll find something new to fill yours with!

Big love from The Residents
