Three albums of the week vying for your attention…firstly Sun Araw draws equally upon 70s kraut-psych rock, Spacemen 3-style drug blues & woozy tropical world music for a set that will get fans of Loop, Wooden Shjips & Pocohaunted very excited indeed…Kurt Vile, also of shop faves War On Drugs, brings us a lo-fi unfocussed gem but not without pop melody & structure, an experience that’s much like listening to War On Drugs, pre-production, on a dodgy cassette player…lastly, legendary Basic Channel techno boff Moritz Von Oswald teams up with Vladislav Delay & Max Loderbauer for a dream crossing of classic Berlin techno, ‘On The Corner’ Miles Davis, Larry Heard & Can…elsewhere, Florence & The Machine finally release their mad art-pop debut (get in quick if you want the ultra limited double version)…Slow Club charm us on their long-awaited debut…Implosion Quintet baffles with excursions through eastern europe via prog, stoner rock, electronica & more along the way…Bombay Bicycle Club peddle out their debut for the kids…Bowerbirds bring intelligent, melodic folk for fans of Iron & Wine & Phosphorescent…take one member of Vampire Weekend & Ra Ra Riot, put ‘em together & what do you get? auto-tuned vocodery r&b with an electro-pop sheen that’s what, it’s all here on the new Discovery album…The Gentlemen Losers are my sneaky tip for the week, those who like Tape & all the more accessible end of the Type spectrum should get on this…Quantic & His Combo Barbaro deliver more of the funky stuff direct from Columbia…uber-producers Diplo & Switch team up for their massively hyped Major Lazer project…other releases this week from the likes of Foreign Born, Engineers, The Bobby McGee’s, Neil Hannon & Thomas Walsh’s Duckworth Lewis Method collaboration, Tiny Vipers, Desire on the super-trendy Italians Do It Better label, Maxwell & heaps more.Click on the below new releases link for a more in-depth perusal…
