‘three’ was recorded in portugal, together with his trio featuring jaques morelenbaum (cello) & judy kang (violin), following his european tour. it's his first album as a trio since 1996 & he uses the opportunity to break away from his pulsing, melodic playing in places, allowing the strings to provide a framework for his thoughtful, more abstract musings on piano. the dvd features nearly two hours of footage, filmed whilst on tour, & features music used in the soundtracks for 'the last emperor', 'merry christmas mr lawrence', 'the sheltering sky' & 'high heels', as well as showcasing new material.
