ERLAND COOPER
Hether Blether
PHASES
We are BIG fans of the Scotsman's immaculate compositions and with the third and final album in a trilogy of releases shaped by the islands where he grew up, we remain mesmerised by him.
Hailing from the archipelago of Orkney in Scotland, the contemporary composer and multi-instrumentalist has explored the birdlife (2018’s 'Solan Goose'), sea (2019’s 'Sule Skerry') and, on 'Hether Blether', the land, manifesting an immersive collection of music, words and imagery. This is a must for fans of portico quartet, a winged victory for the sullen and penguin cafe. “It’s laudably bold – Hether Blether’s commitment to the human voice will keep this album far from the Spotify chillout playlists which make up the vast majority of ambient’s mainstream exposure” 8/10 – loud & quiet.
