Forged on the south coast, with links stretching from the Isle of Wight right to our own front door, Adult Jazz’s first full-length in a decade - ‘So Sorry, So Slow’ - is experimental in scope yet anchored in the pop tradition, with melodic hooks and poetic lyricisms tumbling into our ears with a startling gusto.
There’s an oddly infectious eccentricity to the musical stylings of Adult Jazz. It bursts and bubbles like a lively brook, babbling with excitement as one idea leaps into the next. One second, they’re letting loose with spinning and twirling Arthur Russell-esque strings, the next, leaning heavily upon a sombre piano before boosting into jaw-dropping dramatics lifted straight from a musical theatre playbook and tying the various pinwheeling thrills all together is the central pivot point of frontman Harry Burgess’ exultant falsetto vocals.
