The debut album from the Leeds indie ascendants, English Teacher, goes way beyond their post-punk tags to showcase an incredible versatility, depth & range to their sound – from joyous pop to inventive instrumentation to melancholic comedowns – all with cracking guitar riffs & melodies.

The real secret to their brilliance lies in Lily Fontaine’s outstanding vocals, which elevate the simplest of tunes to levels of alluring magnetism. Lily: “I want this album to feel like you’ve gone to space, and it turns out its almost identical to Doncaster. It’s about in-betweens, it’s about home, and it’s about desire paths." In several songs, she reflects on growing up as a mixed-race individual in a place, she says, “where many didn’t have any tolerance towards people who are different” in a post-Brexit landscape.
