Keeley Forsyth
The Hollow
130701 / FatCat Records
Keeley Forsyth has unfurled her ‘Limbs’ and is inviting us into the dark and theatrical spaces constructed on her brilliant 3rd record - ‘The Hollow’.
Reminiscent of the focused intensity present on Gazelle Twin’s recent ‘Black Dog’, Anohni at her most exploratory, and Scott Walker’s courageous knack for darting into the great unknown, Forsyth has studiously crafted a stirring album of monumental gravity. Her world-building is sublime. She draws us into the spattered North Yorkshire landscape she calls home, deftly revealing the past lurking in caliginous corners.
Whilst the spectral instrumentation is clearly informed by a wide range of soundtrack work, it’s Forsyth’s ever-entrancing voice around which the light bends. It anchors each masterful track within the cavernous gloom, soars in layers through clouds, and beckons us to follow her deeper still into this portentous universe.
