Craig Finn
Faith In The Future
Partisan Records
the hold steady front man goes it alone again with some brilliant, springsteen doing americana results.
finn will always be inextricably associated with the hold steady, and, while he has his own way on this own album, the closest reference is still his hold steady classics. added to the 'boys and girls of america' vibes though are some leonard cohen marching deliveries, some shins-y build ups and lyricisms and a heap of elvis costello. a really assured solo effort from someone who can always be relied upon for a great tune. "craig finn has said elsewhere that he pitched these songs to the hold steady but no one reacted to them. on the evidence of this album, they're a tough crowd" - 7/10 uncut
