this hero of the experimental underground continues her ascent into wonderfully inventive, crystalline contemporary pop minor-stardom – this album has your name on it if you dig grimes, tuneyards, and jenny hval.

The dizzying buffet of live grooves here represent an inversion of the dusty, sample-based minimal textures of ‘Half Free’, Meg Remy’s euphoric 4AD debut. Instead we have disco employed as a protest vernacular (‘Mad As Hell’), as well as an unrelenting assault (‘Time’), slow-burning funk (‘velvet for sale’) and earnest synth anthems (‘rosebud’). This really feels like an album for now, remy a distinctive cultural voice who demands our attention whilst giving us permission to have fun too. “The album is undoubtedly going to end up on many writers’ end-of-year lists, and it’s only February. Remy and her co-conspirators have truly set the bar for great records in 2018, by drawing from the best elements of nocturnal power from bygone eras” 9/10 – line of best fit
