Play It Again Sam
a simply beautiful record of striking vocals set against sparse instrumentation.
originally from copenhagen but now living in berlin, agnes is influenced by roy orbison, sonic youth & eric satie & is often compared to joanna newsom, ane brun, st.vincent & rickie lee jones but to our ears, she is more reminiscent of sol seppy’s deceptive simplicity, jose gonzales’ spine-tingling delivery or a mellower soap & skin. it’s an album to curl up with in a window seat on a cold wintery evening, with a mug of hot chocolate, staring up at the stars. highly recommended. “limpidly evocative piano instrumentals in the vein of ludovico einaudi, some tinted with cello, organ, harp or celesta, blend seamlessly with obel's delicately dusky harmonies” 4/5 – independent.
