Thee Sacred Souls
Thee Sacred Souls
daptone
An utterly intoxicating, warm & textured debut from these southern California sweet soul pioneers, mixing the easygoing grace of sweet ’60s soul with the grit & groove of early ’70s R&B.
Weightless vocals are anchored by the rhythm section’s deep pocket & infectious chemistry.
Pure, perfect, timeless Daptone vibes.
There’s something inevitable about the sound of this breakout San Diego trio, Thee Sacred Souls. It‘s as if these guys - bassist Sal Samano, drummer Alex Garcia & singer Josh Lane - have been playing together for a lifetime already. “Every step of the way has just been so organic,” says Garcia. “Things just seem to happen naturally when the three of us get together.”
Produced by Bosco Mann (aka Daptone co-founder Gabriel Roth), hints of Chicano, Philly, Chicago, Memphis & even Panama soul turn up here. While it’s tempting to toss around labels like “retro” with a deliberately analogue collection like this, there’s also something distinctly modern about the band that defies easy categorisation - a rawness & a sincerity that transcends time & place.
